In smaller rooms the use is obvious. Design does not determine function; space planning does. Design is comprised of three basic functions. First, Space planning or the manipulation of abstract space on a flat plan. Second, interior design or the actual design. Design gives life and dimension to the flat plan. The third step is the finishing touches called decoration. This is the step many jump to first. Decoration is a pleasing addition but not essential to a design.
