Space Planning, a fundamental building block in design.

The basic idea behind space planning has a long pedigree. From earliest recorded time, basic rules of composition have been closely associated with the meaning of life. In residence space planning, the concept takes on more importance in larger homes. In smaller rooms the use is obvious. Design does not determine function; space planning does. Design is comprised of three basic functions. First, Space planning or the manipulation of abstract space on a flat plan. Second, interior design or the actual design. Design gives life and dimension to the flat plan. The third step is the finishing touches called decoration. This is the step many jump to first. Decoration is a pleasing addition but not essential to a design.
